Learning Standards:

Scientific Inquiry and Reasoning

PK.S.1.1: Campers will be encouraged to ask questions about kitchen ingredients and predict what will happen during CO2 sensory experiments, fostering curiosity.

PK.S.1.3: Campers will test predictions through active exploration with hands-on experimentation with everyday kitchen ingredients, understanding the science behind CO2 bubbles.

Engineering Design Process

PK.S.6.1: Campers will identify simple problems, such as detecting harmful gas in the kitchen, and brainstorm solutions through the design process.

PK.S.6.2: Campers will explore multiple solutions to design challenges by actively experimenting with different approaches while building a gas-detecting robot.

Physical Development and Health

PK.PDH.1: Campers will use their senses to guide learning by touching, smelling, and tasting ingredients during food sensory games and treat-making.

Social-Emotional Development

PK.SED.4.2: Campers will work together to solve problems and will be encouraged to collaborate while building the gas-detecting robot.

PK.SED.3.2: Campers will demonstrate self-regulation by managing their feelings appropriately during experiments, practicing patience, and enjoying a bubbly celebration feast.

Approaches to Learning

PK.AL.4: Campers will exhibit curiosity and willingness to learn new things through magical CO2-infused treat-making activities like Fizzy Lemonade and risen bread, cultivating a sense of wonder.

Little Architects: Building a Giant Community Garden

Imagine building a massive community garden overflowing with blooming plants, and humming farmer robots, and enchanting botanical buildings! We welcome all of our architects and gardeners to come together and cultivate our breathtaking robotic garden, working together to equip a normal garden with futuristic inventions watering the plants and emitting UV sunlight. This week will show you how to look beyond the lush green leaves and discover how a classroom of bright campers can help plants from faraway places thrive in the campsite. Are you ready to build a super garden?

Campers will:

  • Build wooden garden structures using real woodworking tools to create planters, frames, and features for the community garden.
  • Design and add robotic helpers that water plants and shine light, helping them grow and thrive in new environments.
  • Work together as gardeners and builders to test, adjust, and care for their garden as it grows throughout the week.
