What are the camp hours? * We create completely different sets of curriculum for the 3-4yo, 5-7yo, and 8-12yo age groups, although they share the same theme. 3-4yo's are budding changemakers and will participate in multi-sensory, immersive activities to learn more about the topic of the week and eventually understand the purpose of the project. They will learn about key engineering concepts through our hands-on GTK (Getting-To-Know) activities, so they become proficient in the tools and materials they use to build their project. Throughout the building process, they will unleash their boundless creativity to create their unique designs!
Should my preschooler attend NORY? * Absolutely! Our programs are tailored to meet the unique developmental milestones of each age group. We ensure that campers are grouped with peers of similar ages and led by counselors specializing in their age group. For 3-4-year-olds, the teacher-to-student ratio is 5:1, and we prepare lessons and materials in an age-appropriate manner.
What are the camp hours? * Our full-day summer camp runs from 9 am to 3 pm. For 3-4-year-olds, we offer a half-day program that runs from 9 am to 12 pm. We also provide the option for early drop-off (8:15 am) and extended care (5:30 pm) for an additional fee.
Can I enroll my child in a partial week? * Unfortunately, we do not offer partial weeks or drop-in days for our summer camps. Each week is designed around a signature, multi-day project, and enrolling in a partial week may prevent your child from completing the project.
Is it ok to register for non-consecutive weeks? * Yes! Each week of our summer camp is independent, with its own unique theme and project. Your child will not miss out on anything if they do not attend consecutive weeks.
My child has never done a STEM camp. Will it be age appropriate? * We create completely different sets of curriculum for the 3-4yo, 5-7yo, and 8-12yo age groups, although they share the same theme. 3-4yo's are budding changemakers and will participate in multi-sensory, immersive activities to learn more about the topic of the week and eventually understand the purpose of the project. They will learn about key engineering concepts through our hands-on GTK (Getting-To-Know) activities, so they become proficient in the tools and materials they use to build their project. Throughout the building process, they will unleash their boundless creativity to create their unique designs!
If my child is aged in between the learning division, e.g. rising 5yo, which group is better for them? At our summer camp, we take great care to tailor our curriculum to each age group's specific developmental needs. We recommend registering your child for the age group that they will be in based on their age on the first day of camp. However, if your child is close to the age cut-off for a particular group, we suggest reassessing after the first day of camp to see if they would benefit from moving to the older age group. We make this recommendation primarily for the social aspect of camp. For instance, if your child is seven years old, they will likely have a more enjoyable experience being grouped with other seven-year-olds rather than only children who are older than them. However, if you have a strong preference for your child to be in the older age group, or if they have a friend attending that group, we can make an exception. Ultimately, our main priority is to provide each camper with the best possible experience, and we have found that this often occurs when they are grouped with children their own age.

Please note that we will not have access to refrigeration for snacks this summer, so we encourage you to prepare non-perishable items.
My child has special needs, can they still come to camp? * At NORY, we embrace an inclusive culture. Families are asked to share notes about their child so our Site Director and class teachers can carefully review them to find every way to provide customized attention each child needs. Also, as a general rule of thumb, we ask that the child is accompanied by the same level of support (SEIT, therapist, etc.) they receive at school.
Can my child’s SEIT or therapist attend camp with them? * Absolutely! If your child normally has a SEIT or therapist accompanying them in school, we highly recommend inviting them to camp as well. NORY teachers do not have training in special education.
Staff
How many children are in each group? * There will be 15-20 kids per classroom, depending on the size and age group of the kids
What is the teacher-to-camper ratio? * We take pride in maintaining a low teacher-to-camper ratio to ensure quality supervision and an enriching experience for our campers. Our camper-to-teacher ratios are as follows: 5:1 ratio for 3-4yo, 6:1 ratio for 5-7yo, and 7:1 ratio for 8+yo.
Can I talk to my teacher before camp starts? * Our classroom groupings are created just before camp begins to allow for open enrollment, and therefore, we are unable to facilitate a meet and greet between the teachers and parents before the first day of camp.
What are the qualifications for your teachers? * We have teachers from various training backgrounds ranging from one who may have 10+ years of teaching experience as a certified teacher to aspiring teachers completing their bachelor’s degree. All teachers are NORY certified and have gone through our thorough training program. All teachers are vetted through an intensive three-round interview process, and we rely on our thorough teacher training programs to ensure the masterful delivery of all lessons and behavior management.
Health and Safety
Are your staff trained to administer Epipens? * Yes, our staff are trained to administer Epipens in case of an emergency. You can choose to leave your child's EpiPen at the camp location for the duration of camp or send it with them each day.
What should I do if my child gets sick or injured at camp? * If your child gets sick or injured at camp, we will contact you immediately. If we cannot reach you, we will contact your emergency contact. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, such as uncontrollable bleeding, seizure, loss of consciousness, or allergic reaction, the Site Director will call 911 first and then contact the camper's emergency contacts.
What safety measures are taken when traveling to and from campus? * When traveling off-campus to places such as the park or pool, all children will wear neon-colored vests. Children are required to hold onto a rope when walking, and the student-to-teacher ratio is lowered during travel times. Campers are counted and checked every 15 minutes while off-campus.
What is the camp's policy on bullying? * Bullying is when one or more people exclude, tease, taunt, gossip, hit, or put down another person with the intent to hurt. At NORY, we have a strict policy against all types of bullying. Every NORY Camper is accepted, and we work together to ensure that campers gain self-confidence, make new friends, and return home with unforgettable memories. Our leadership addresses any incident of bullying and trains staff to promote communication so that information is openly provided. If a camper exhibits inappropriate behavior, staff will give a verbal reminder and redirect them to more appropriate behavior. If the inappropriate behavior persists, staff will have a private discussion with the camper about their behavior, and the Camp Director will be notified. If inappropriate behavior persists or becomes excessive, and the child continues to disrupt the camp program, the Camp Director reserves the right to suspend the child from the program for a period of time depending on the severity of the issue. If a child's behavior threatens the immediate safety of the individual, other children, or staff, the guardian will be contacted and expected to pick up the child immediately. Expulsion from the program may be considered by the Camp Director on a case-by-case basis.
