Camp Logistics
Q: What should campers bring each day?
A: Campers should bring two nut-free snacks, a water bottle, a change of clothes, and sunscreen. For full-day campers, lunch is provided.
Q: What is the daily schedule?
A: You can view our sample daily schedule HERE
Q: Can my child be in the same group as their friend?
A: You may request your child’s friends to be with your camper, even if one is attending half-day and the other full-day. While we will try our best to accommodate your requests, please understand that many factors go into balancing classrooms, so we will try our best, but cannot make any guarantees.
Q: Do you provide lunch?
A: Yes! NORY provides a hot lunch for all campers. Our food service provider is Butter Beans, the company that caters for Asphalt Green and Basis Independent Schools. In addition to the hot entree, there will be a daily supply of plain pasta, fruits, vegetables, and bread with sun butter and other spread options. Lunch is served indoors. ButterBeans provides three menus daily:
Q: Are there nuts allowed at camp?
A: No, the entire summer campsite is a nut-free zone. All food provided at the campsite will be nut-free.
Q: Do you provide snacks?
A: Yes, we provide crackers and pretzels for snacks. However, we encourage families to pack their child's nut-free snack in a paper bag that can be disposed of at the end of the day. Please note that we will not have access to refrigeration for snacks this summer, so we encourage you to prepare non-perishable items.
Q: My child has special needs, can they still come to camp?
A: At NORY, we embrace an inclusive culture. Families are asked to share notes about their child so our Site Director and class teachers can carefully review them to find every way to provide customized attention each child needs. Also, as a general rule of thumb, we ask that the child is accompanied by the same level of support (SEIT, therapist, etc.) they receive at school.
Q: Can my child’s SEIT or therapist attend camp with them?
A: Absolutely! If your child normally has a SEIT or therapist accompanying them in school, we highly recommend inviting them to camp as well. NORY teachers do not have training in special education.
