Health and Safety
Q: Are your staff trained to administer Epipens?
A: Yes, our staff are trained to administer Epipens in case of an emergency. You can choose to leave your child's EpiPen at the camp location for the duration of camp or send it with them each day.
Q: What should I do if my child gets sick or injured at camp?
A: If your child gets sick or injured at camp, we will contact you immediately. If we cannot reach you, we will contact your emergency contact. In the event of a life-threatening emergency, such as uncontrollable bleeding, seizure, loss of consciousness, or allergic reaction, the Site Director will call 911 first and then contact the camper's emergency contacts.
Q: What safety measures are taken when traveling to and from campus?
A: When traveling off-campus to places such as the park or pool, all children will wear neon-colored vests. Children are required to hold onto a rope when walking, and the student-to-teacher ratio is lowered during travel times. Campers are counted and checked every 15 minutes while off-campus.
Q. What is the camp's policy on bullying?
A. Bullying is when one or more people exclude, tease, taunt, gossip, hit, or put down another person with the intent to hurt. At NORY, we have a strict policy against all types of bullying. Every NORY Camper is accepted, and we work together to ensure that campers gain self-confidence, make new friends, and return home with unforgettable memories. Our leadership addresses any incident of bullying and trains staff to promote communication so that information is openly provided. If a camper exhibits inappropriate behavior, staff will give a verbal reminder and redirect them to more appropriate behavior. If the inappropriate behavior persists, staff will have a private discussion with the camper about their behavior, and the Camp Director will be notified. If inappropriate behavior persists or becomes excessive, and the child continues to disrupt the camp program, the Camp Director reserves the right to suspend the child from the program for a period of time depending on the severity of the issue. If a child's behavior threatens the immediate safety of the individual, other children, or staff, the guardian will be contacted and expected to pick up the child immediately. Expulsion from the program may be considered by the Camp Director on a case-by-case basis.
