Inventor's Time Travel: Innovations Throughout History

Hop inside the magic school bus, we're going to take an adventure through time! In one moment, you've warped back to the prehistoric era. A giant robotic mammoth is rampaging through the NORY village, and you'll need stone-age tools and clever problem-solving to catch it before it causes any more chaos. Blink again, and suddenly you're in the middle of the Industrial Revolution, where spinning gears and moving machines will help us set up an automated ice cream shop! Finally, we will blast off into the future to save the world from an evil alien chicken using our own advanced robotic inventions. Each stop in time holds a secret, as inventors in every era solved problems using the tools they had. Grab your seat and hold on as our time-traveling inventors break the timeline and innovate across the ages!

Campers will:

  • Explore inventions from different eras by testing how early tools, machines, and systems solved problems with limited resources.
  • Combine ideas across time by using engineering and robotics to remix ancient, industrial, and modern inventions into creative new solutions.
  • Complete time-travel themed missions: catching giant robotic mammoths in the prehistoric era, running their own ice cream shop in the Industrial Revolution, and saving the world from an evil chicken alien in the future.

Learning Standards:

Scientific Inquiry and Reasoning (PK.S.1)

PK.S.1.1: Campers will be encouraged to ask questions about woodworking materials and predict outcomes during small-scale projects, fostering curiosity and scientific reasoning.

PK.S.1.3: Campers will actively explore woodworking materials through hands-on experimentation, understanding the scientific principles behind drilling, hammering, and sanding.

Engineering Design Process (PK.ETS1)

PK.ETS1.1: Campers will identify problems, such as how to construct large-scale Olympic sport-inspired games, and brainstorm solutions through the engineering design process.

PK.ETS1.2: Campers will explore multiple solutions by actively experimenting with different approaches while building their Olympic-inspired woodworking projects.

Physical Development and Health (PK.PDH.1)

PK.PDH.1.1: Campers will develop fine motor skills by drilling, hammering, and sanding during small-scale woodworking projects.

Social-Emotional Development (PK.SED.4.2)

PK.SED.4.2: Campers will collaborate in teams to build large-scale Olympic sport-inspired games, learning teamwork, perseverance, and social-emotional skills.

Approaches to Learning (PK.AL.4)

PK.AL.4: Campers will exhibit curiosity and willingness to learn new skills by participating in scaffolded woodworking projects and discovering the fascinating world of Olympic sports.
